Self-Assesment

During this class and throughout all the assignments that I had to complete throughout the semester by myself and with my peers from my assigned group, I learned how to edit and reflect on some of the language that I usually use in my writing. I also learned better ways to expand on what I was trying to say by learning from my peers in a way that made my writing sound more professional and my questions more concise.

I have also been able to edit my writing more effectively by revising other people’s work and doing peer reviews so that my group’s assignments could be done in a way that the teacher could understand and that we all could agree upon. Not only that, but I also learned different ways to connect some of the ideas I wanted to include through my group’s discussions and brainstorming. This helped us answer the assignment questions in a way that combined all of our ideas and attracted the reader in a new way that I hadn’t used before.

One of the most important parts of this semester was when I worked with my group on our topic of euthanasia. We had to do a lot of research using scholarly databases and other reliable sources to understand the topic better. We looked through articles and academic journals that helped me to learn how to find and use strong sources that supported our ideas. I was able to practice how to quote, paraphrase, and cite those sources the right way which also made our writing sound more professional. While working with my group, we had to take different ideas and opinions and figure out how to say things in a way that made sense and represented what we all wanted to say. Since euthanasia is a serious topic, we also had to think carefully about the words we used and how we said things, especially when writing and presenting. I paid more attention to my word choices and how to communicate my thoughts during this process. I feel like this project helped me apply a lot of the learning goals from the class like finding good sources, writing for a specific audience, using clear language, and working with others to get a message across in a strong and thoughtful way.

All of this also played a part in how I communicated with other people in my group and with my peers during peer review and conversations about how others’ work was going. I also learned a lot about being satisfied with my own writing and discovering what methods worked for me by observing how others approached their work. This helped me articulate my words in a way that reflected my ideas more clearly in my writing.

Additionally, I found databases really helpful in looking for sources that connected to what I was trying to say and to what my group and I were trying to convey in our writing, as well as in our presentations and overall message through our chosen topics. It was really important to be able to find a good source that supported that message.

Finally, the words I chose to use in my writing played a large role in how my partners and I were trying to sound overall and in deciding what would be most effective in our essays. Since we wanted to sound more professional and because our topic was euthanasia, we wanted our writing to sound like we were coming from someone knowledgeable about medicine.

Overall, I was satisfied with how I did this semester, and I was proud of myself for how I was able to communicate and resonate with what my peers were thinking and with what the teacher wanted me to do.
